story of absence

Embedded in the Heritage Days of the Brussels Capital Region on the 20th and 21st of September, the National Bank has decided to show almost thirty works from its expansive collection of contemporary Belgian art.

Most of the nearly 1800 artworks of live Belgian artists have been collected for over forty years and are usually kept out of view of the public, in the Bank?s offices. Until the end of October, a selection of this collection is exhibited under the glass dome of the Bank?s scientific library ? a graciously renovated 19th century bank building. The exhibition, called ?A Story of Absence?, weaves its theme in close accordance with that of the Heritage Days: ?History and memory?. Personal and collective memories, remembrance and forgetting, and history are its focus.
